New Music 2010: Reviews and Interviews from Same Teens

zavvi.com has teamed up with Same Teens – a collective of mini Manc musos – to bring you exclusive new music reviews and interviews direct from the DJ box…

Photographer: Gavin Watson

It’s been an amazing three years for Same Teens; having started up to solve the problem of not actually being old enough gain entry to gigs – by organising their own regular Under 18 club nights – Same Teens are now involved in a range of exciting projects.

From writing and publishing their own magazine (XOX), curating stages at festivals, hosting gigs for the likes of Mystery Jets and The Foals, touring with The Charlatans, being booked to DJ by Tricky, writing columns in national magazines like Artrocker and being invited to publish a special XOX at the iconic Isle of Wight Festival and much more…Same Teens are ON IT!

zavvi.com are delighted to be working with Same Teens and here on out they’ll be blogging, interviewing, illustrating, filming and generally keeping us updated with their shenanigans and the music that is tipped to be huge for 2010!

Over to you guys…

Introducing…Same Teens

OK so we’re Same Teens. It’s kind of hard to pinpoint what we do, whether it’s DJing, writing an online magazine, organising fashion shoots, putting on gigs or even installing Charles Saatchi‘s favourite artists like Sarah Maple into shop windows and letting her rip, we do it all! We’ve travelled from the Lake District for Kendal Calling to Hamburg for Dockville during last year’s festival season DJing and curating stages, even ending up via London for Camden Crawl and Isle of Wight festival too…

In 2009 we had events at Manchester’s In the City for the third year running and managed to wangle ourselves an event at the amazing Manchester International Festival, as well as springing up regularly with one off gigs and events.
We let in 2010 with a bang with a house party in a club, running with the idea that everyone loves guilt free house partying without having to clean up afterwards! We had a kitchen decked out with appliances, a parents’ bedroom full of vintage clothes to take away and a teenage boys room with who-knows-what underneath the bed! There were TVs playing classic shows and toilets with sneaky gifts to ‘steal’ including Stella McCartney goodies and shower caps. Amongst all that we also had some amazing DJ sets from the likes Autokratz, Twisted Wheel, Dutch Uncles and The Whip – even some of the coolest bands in the country (according to the NME Radar anyway) Delphic and Egyptian Hip Hop turned up to dance about. The Guardian even tipped it as one of the top 6 nights in the country!

2010 promises to be a huge year for Same Teens and our magazine XOX; as DJs we’re booked some great festivals and we’ll be organising and playing at plenty of gigs with some of the biggest and best  names in music right now. We’ll be back here posting on a regular basis with exclusive interviews and reviews of our favourite bands and DJs, we’ll be getting bands to dig through their back catalogue and tell us a few stories and much more.

Come back and see us soon!

STx
