New Music 2010: Kid British Interview

If there’s one thing that brings out nationwide pride in the English, it’s football. Forget St George, his day goes by like any other; when there’s a World Cup, we get proud of being English more than any other time.

Every four years, we maintain the hope that we’ll get to the final, and each year, we’re disappointed. But not this year! This year we’ll do it … Yeah, say it enough and you’ll believe it.

With Kid British having recorded an unofficial World Cup song we caught up with Adio for a chat about the fast approaching tournament…

Apart from England, what team will be cheering on?

Most probably Brazil, they have some of the best players in the world. If England doesn’t win, we want Brazil to win…and they win in the female department!

What football cliché will you be overusing during the world cup?

Let’s not go to penalties! Haha.

If Kid British were a football team, who would you be?

We’d be Manchester City, the rest of the boys hate them so we’d be them haha! Sean would play right back, he’s rapid, like really fast! And he works hard. Simeon would be right midfield, he can organise strong, and a few tricks would work on the wing. James, I’d leave him upfront, he plays Fifa all day so has a few tricks probably, and he’s fast. I’d play centre midfield as I can do everything from defence to attack. I’m just quality, what else can I say? Yeah, if Cappello’s having problems picking the squad he can put me in!

Who’d step up to take a Kid British penalty?

I’d take the penalty, but I think Simeon would stay otherwise ‘cause we went on holiday once we entered a footy competition, it got to penalties and I missed, Simeon scored though!!

What’s your best world cup memory?

The look on Lineker’s face when he’s pointing out that Gazza’z crying in 1990! Or when Zidane head butted that kid in the final, or when Maradona ran through the whole England team and scored; and of course, Gazza crying!

But, the world cup doesn’t last forever, and Kid British have other plans for summer than just watching football:

We’re playing loads of festival and get back in the swing of things. Get the album out there and move on. It’s been an eventful nine months, last year’s highlight was defo V fest – both tents were packed out to see us. It was mega! We proper loved it.

With this year’s chances of winning seeming higher than usual, maybe this could truly be the year for England, maybe “football’s coming home” like that one good anthem said. Maybe this maybe that, we can speculate ‘til the 90th minute but one thing’s for sure, even if England don’t do as well (and come on, maybe’s aside,  the chances of that happening are pretty high) Kid British will be there supporting our lads all the way, until they get knocked out that is, and then it’s Brazil.
