24 has been the best thing on TV for a quite a while – incredible drama centred on politics and terrorist plots, tons of action, drama and tension – with Jack Bauer one of the all-time great action characters. However, with criticism that the formula was becoming stale (seemingly since President Palmer bowed out and the original line-up started to be axed) came the brave move to relocate to Washington DC, decommission CTU and to have yet another new President in 24 Series 7.
The complex and overlapping storylines has always been one of 24’s strengths, but after an impressive opening introduction, 24 Series 7 begins to unravel and become a tad over the top. This is one crazy day even for Bauer (and this is the man who has had to put up with multiple murders, false imprisonment, the death of most of his family, nuclear explosions and Tony Almedas terrible goatee) so you’ll have to suspend your reality a bit further !
That aside, a below-par episode of 24 is still better than most things on TV (and most films for that matter) and 24 Series 7 is sure to be a favourite this Christmas.
